These handcrafted earrings by Laura Morgan combine many elements in a small space: texture, oxidation, mixed metals, and a concave shape. Fine silver, 24 carat gold leaf, sterling. 7/8 inch X 7/8 inch.
Keum-boo (pronounced kum-boo) is an ancient Korean gilding technique used to bond gold to other metals. This technique is accomplished by first depleting the surface of sterling silver to bring up a thin layer of fine silver. Then 24 carat gold foil is applied with heat and pressure to produce a permanent diffusion bond. |
