A Henry Bergeson Kaleidoscope is a marvelous blend of engineering, technology and sculpture. Each kaleidoscope reflects Henry’s mechanical design talents and an appreciation of the organic forms suggested by the wood itself. Henry grew up building boats, rebuilding cars and destroying televisions. After college, he co-designed one-of-a-kind sailing rigs for cargo ships to reduce fuel costs. A New England native, Henry now lives at 9,000 feet in the mountains, west of Denver, Colorado. He began making kaleidoscopes in 1987. Inspired by a humbling view of Pikes Peak, his scopes are a delight to hold, look through and admire, as interactive art. Henry’s flair for design and his affinity for the materials used to create his scopes have contributed to making a Henry Bergeson Kaleidoscope an exciting addition to any collection. All kaleidoscopes are handcrafted of fine hardwoods with polished brass fittings. Each piece represents the culmination of the evolution of his art form. Another set of factors which are essential in bringing these scopes out of the ether and into reality are Frank Kelly and Gail Widmer Keeler. Henry’s interests include photography, architectural redesign, construction, his life partner Leilani Rashida Henry, and sitting in the sun when he gets a chance.
