Appalachian Spring is committed to supporting craftpeople who consider the environment when they create their beautiful works: not because it is the current trend, but because it is right to try and preserve our world’s resources. Many of our craftspeople live in communities where they are constantly reminded of the bounty and precious nature of their surroundings. Increasingly, these artists choose to incorporate environmentally sound principles into their working lives- everything from using recycled glass and metal in their output, to fueling their studios with methane extracted from landfills, using unbleached cotton and recycling fiber, recovering and using secondary use and scrap woods, and participating in reforestation projects around the world. Many even make it a point to reuse packing and shipping materials when shipping their work to us. In an expanding “throw away” society, purchasing quality products that can last a lifetime or that can be used time and again is just another small step we all can take toward an environmentally productive future.
